Dear Fellow Graduates and Friends,
I hope your 2011 is going well and would like to take this opportunity to briefly update you on some recent events in the Union Graduate College community. With nearly 700 active students across our four Schools, there is always something to tell you about:
- This past November, ten Students from the MBA in Healthcare Management Program traveled to Switzerland to learn firsthand about the Swiss healthcare delivery system.
- The School of Education, along with three other Capital Region colleges, received a service learning grant. Project SLATE (Service Learning and Teacher Education) will help educate future teachers on how to bring community service into the classroom.
- The Center for Bioethics & Clinical Leadership has introduced a Research Ethics program to meet the growing demand in this field. Its primary focus is on the protection of human and animal participants in drug trials and other biomedical research.
- In the School of Engineering and Computer Science, Dr. David Torrey, our Director of the Electrical Engineering program, received the “Tech Valley Innovation Award” for his firm, Advanced Energy Conversion. The honor is given by the Chamber of Schenectady County to a business that has shown "extraordinary technical innovation."
In case you have not heard, our commencement speaker this year will be Paul F. Oreffice, a former CEO of Dow Chemicals. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board for the National Parkinson Foundation and has also recently released a book "Only in America," which has received great reviews. Commencement will be held at Proctor’s Theatre in Schenectady, on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 9 a.m.
Alumni frequently ask questions like "How can I stay connected to Union Graduate College?" or "What can I do to help the College?" Here are some suggestions:
Please visit our "Get Involved" page for some additional ways to help advance Union Graduate College.
Again, I encourage you to stop by The Graduate Center and say "hello." I would enjoy meeting you, and you might even run into one of your professors!
Warm Regards,
