The Union Graduate College
School of Management Mentor Program is seeking alumni mentors to assist current MBA students. This program is designed to build relationships between our MBA students (mentees) and alumni who are also local business professionals (mentors). Providing our MBA graduate students with an opportunity to work with highly successful leaders in the student's field of interest promotes relevance between their study and "real-world" professional application.
Union Graduate College alumni make the best mentors because they are familiar with the institution and curriculum, so they can assist students as they transition from the classroom to the environment of a corporate culture.
Why you should become a mentor...
- Opportunity to connect and "give something back" to Union Graduate College;
- Assist future leaders in defining their career goals;
- Gain personal satisfaction by providing guidance to motivated graduate and MBA students;
- Provide name recognition and relationship building for you and your organization;
- Learn more about the Graduate College's progressive MBA curriculum;
- Gain access to qualified graduate students for potential employment.
What can you offer to Union Graduate College students?
- Guidance, insight and knowledge of your industry;
- A realistic "Big-picture" perspective in your area of expertise;
- Advice and support about careers, goals and business skills;
- Access to business networks and professional development opportunities;
- Consideration for potential employment/internship opportunities;
- Practical "real-world" dimension to graduate course study;
Can you mentor even if you no longer live near the College?
Absolutely! Some graduate students will be looking to relocate to specific areas to pursue employment or career advancement opportunities in their area of interest., so we welcome and encourage alumni outside of the New York Capital Region to participate.
What type of time commitment is involved?
Although it's determined by your availability, we ask that you at least meet twice per term (6 times per year) with the student you will be mentoring. Mentoring can be done over the phone, via e-mail, through visits to your workplace, during scheduled lunches, etc. Union Graduate College Mentors are known to take great interest in their students and have invited them to participate in such activities as board and/or business meetings, conferences, job shadowing and professional association events.
