Union Graduate College is Dedicated to the Art of Teaching
When it comes to preparing teachers, there is no substitute for experience.
That’s why the Union Graduate College School of Education has been designed by teachers. Up and coming educators are taught by proven practitioners who excel in their subject matter and in the classroom. Union Graduate School teaching degree programs focus exclusively on the art of teaching at the secondary level. Renowned for their rigor and quality, they are aligned with National Board Certification standards and principles and serve as a model for certification programs in New York State. The combination of curriculum and leadership makes it easy to see why Union Graduate College teachers are among the most qualified and sought-after in their field.
Master Degree Programs for Teachers
The MAT - Master of Arts in Teaching and the M.S.- Master of Science for Teachers of Mathematics and Science are designed by educators who are passionate about teaching and dedicated to developing the most effective approaches to secondary education. Each program meets the needs of one or more categories of students pursuing the following degree programs;
- M.A.T. is designed primarily for individuals with no prior teaching certification committed to becoming excellent secondary school teachers. This program is generally completed in one calendar year by full-time students and two- to three-calendar years by part-time students. This program provides a teacher with Initial Certification and the master’s degree necessary for professional certification. Some students already holding initial certification from an undergraduate program, enter the Graduate College’s M.A.T. to learn advanced teaching skills to earn the master’s degree necessary for Permanent Certification, and to gain additional classroom experience under the guidance of master teachers.
- Combined M.A.T. is designed for Union undergraduates who wish to enter teaching as a profession. This program is usually completed in one calendar year after the student graduates from Union College with a B.A. or a B.S. degree.
- CORE M.A.T. is designed primarily for career changers who already have a master’s degree or more in their area of certification. This program provides students with the pedagogy course work necessary to attain Initial Certification. They already have the master’s degree required for Permanent Certification. This program is typically completed in one calendar year.
