What the MBA Degree Program Entails

Union Graduate School’s design and delivery of the MBA curriculum introduces the student to core business disciplines; the building of logical reasoning skills combined with computer, communication, and people skills; and the development of an ethical, technology savvy, practical perspective for decision-making.

MBA Core Courses
The MBA program of study at Union Graduate School provides a solid foundation in all aspects of business administration including Probability, Statistics, Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting and Finance, Economics, Marketing, Operations Management, Managing People, Strategic Use of Information Technology and Business Law.

MBA study beyond Core Courses
Union Graduate College allows the MBA student to tailor the program to his or her individual interests with a specific focus on Finance, Economics, Marketing, Operations, General Management, Human Resource Management or Global Business.

Capstone
This course is typically the last course taken in the Masters of Business Administration degree program and is intended to integrate all the courses studied throughout the MBA program. The principle activity in the course is the development of a comprehensive business plan for a real company. This is achieved through small teams of student. Each team presents their final plans to a simulated investment panel of the businesses CEO's and venture capitalists at the end of the course to apply their graduate study to real-world scenarios.

MBA Program Course Requirements
  • 20 Total Graduate Courses
  • 12 Required Core Courses
  • 7 Elective Advanced Courses
  • The Capstone course is typically the last class taken in the MBA program.
  • 12 of the 20 courses must be completed at the Graduate College - a maximum of 8 waivers and transfers combined are allowed.
  • An internship of 400 hours or relevant business experience is required for full-time matriculated students. This is not considered one of the 20 courses.
Union Graduate College MBA Curriculum

A total of 20 courses are required to earn a Master of Business Administration degree from Union Graduate College. This number can be reduced by the number of courses that can be waived. Advanced electives can not be taken until the core course or courses in that discipline have been completed. For example an advanced finance class cannot be taken until Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting and Finance has been completed. In addition courses in three categories will be required to provide some breadth in the program.

The graduate internship is typically done in the summer between the first and second year but it is often worked on a 10 to 20 hours per week basis throughout the school year.

MBA Admission Prerequisites

The School of Management admits students on a rolling basis throughout the year for full and part-time. Union Graduate School Admission is based upon evidence of intellectual achievement, motivation, and aptitude. All students must have or be a candidate for an undergraduate degree from an accredited college before applying for graduate admissions status.

A grade average of “B” (3.0 cumulative index) or better in undergraduate work is expected for admission. The GMAT is also required unless you can waive due to an approved articulation or joint program. Applicants with advanced degrees may petition the Director of Admission for a GMAT waiver consideration.

Union Graduate School’s MBA program is designed for those students who may not have had the opportunity to take any course work in the business field or may not have worked in a business environment previously. If you have taken previous business courses you may want to explore Union Graduate College’s Waiver Transfer Policies.
